Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the outside provider that operates the tool. That provider processes the query and supplies the response. Kalamazoo County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email message may be retained so that our team can respond. We keep that communication within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems receive basic technical details when a page loads, including:
- Your device's IP address
- The browser name and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- A referring website, when one exists
- The date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Small files called cookies may be stored on a device to help measure how visitors move through the site, such as which pages receive traffic and where a visit ends. Analytics providers combine that activity into reports. A browser can block cookies, although some features may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Operating, maintaining, and improving page performance
- Routing a query to the correct search partner
- Measuring which content is useful to visitors
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Kalamazoo County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Records Section, the 8th District and 9th Circuit Courts, the Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not turned into a consumer report or a third-party criminal-history file.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and disclosure practices apply to information entered in those tools. We do not control those terms. Review the provider's policy before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to courts, sheriff pages, Michigan agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this domain, the destination's privacy policy controls. Check it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may also measure activity across different websites to select ads. That processing occurs through their systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to these limited recipients:
- Search providers that process submitted queries
- Analytics vendors that measure visits and site performance
- Advertising networks that serve page ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect the data in our control. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will remove it promptly.
Your Data Rights
Rights vary with applicable law. Michigan's Consumer Protection Act, MCL 445.901 through 445.922, may provide protections against unfair, unconscionable, or deceptive business practices. Subject to applicable law and valid exceptions, you may:
- Request access to personal data associated with you
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Seek deletion where the law permits it
- Object to certain forms of processing when a right applies
